South African singer-songwriter Rowan Stuart prepares for the release of his fifth studio album, ‘Faraway (Deluxe)’, with the launch of new single ‘Survivors’ this February. With radio success on 5FM and major stations countrywide, and multiple South African tours under his belt, Rowan continues to bring his own signature of alternative Indie Pop and Folk music to a wider audience.
Rowan’s sound was motivated by a search for something deeper and more soulful within the landscape of modern pop music. Inspired by the rich storytelling of Sting, the intricate tapestry of African and World rhythms, and even the soundtracks to his favourite classic video games and movies, the Durban-based artist learned that music was his best tool in sharing the inner worlds of his imagination with other people. With his pure voice and virtuosic guitar playing as the vessels, Rowan sails through soundscapes both organic and electronic.
His single ‘Silver Balloon’, which played across South African radio in 2016 and 2017, hit the sweet spot with its modern production, yet lyrically, spoke of a fable involving the Earth and the Moon in an eternal dance. The songs from his forthcoming album ‘Faraway (Deluxe)’ tell tales of the complex and chaotic modern world from which the protagonists dream of places ancient and free. With titles such as ‘The Kingdom Of Leaves’, ‘Castle Beach’ and ‘Faraway’, the songs encapsulate Rowan’s passion for creating music that is a sanctuary from the harshness of modern life. His latest single, entitled ‘Survivors’, depicts a post-apocalyptic landscape where just one true ally can be a rare and priceless treasure.
Rowan has collaborated with artists such as Tresor, Just Jinjer and Nibs van der Spuy, and has opened for many of South Africa’s top pop music acts. He is an ambassador for Cort Guitars South Africa.
‘Faraway (Deluxe)’, which will be released on the 20th of March 2018, will be available across the internet and from his web store on www.rowanstuart.com
Rowan will support the album’s release with a national tour kicking off in late March.
Internationally-acclaimed SAMA award-winning artist Tresor had this to say about Rowan: “It’s really beautiful to watch Rowan Stuart experiment with Pop music the way he does on his new album “Faraway (Deluxe)”. I have known him for a while as a friend and incredible musician and I can’t cease to be amazed by his talent. These new songs are captivating, beautifully written and crafted. This is world-class music brewed right here in South Africa. This is a Masterpiece.” Rowan played guitar on Tresor’s international hit single “Mount Everest” and his SAMA award-winning album “VII”.
Richard & Retha Tait of Cape Town’s much-loved venue The Alma Café wrote: “Rowan Stuart is one of the finest young performers we've had come through the doors at Alma and he has steadily built up a loyal and strong fanbase across the peninsula over two years of touring down from his hometown of Durban. His songwriting is sublime, his voice exquisite and guitar playing a masterclass in understated and virtuosic elegance. Seriously folks, this guy has got "it" and I strongly urge you to come and support one of the country's leading talents.”
